QUE BONITO!

During the month of April I continued to concentrate my fishing on the Sea of Cortez side up at Punta Arena targeting yellowtail. Pretty much camped out every weekend on the point there and fished hard with lures, predominantly choosing to fish deeper with metal jigs in the 2 - 3Oz range. Fished with a good friend of mine & between the two of us we counted 8 different species including Yellowtail, Jack Crevalle, Pompano, Bonito & Sierra Mackerel to mention a few… truly a very unique and special spot to fish. On the 9th we had some great action using glow jigs at night & must have caught and released over 15 Bigeye Trevally between us (local name - Ojo de Perra). They were all small in the 2 - 5kg range but super strong for their size & awesome fun to catch. On Easter Sunday I got a massive Bonito on a pink 3oz jig which fought like crazy so that was definitely my highlight during what was otherwise a pretty quiet weekend for me. Other than that, local conditions around Cabo have continued to be a bit challenging with lots of wind & big swell. We had an excellent run of good sized Sierra Mackerel mid month which lasted a few days then that action died suddenly. This last week has been really tough with big surf and green water so not a lot of action to report but looking forward to May. This is when the water starts warming up and although it’s still a bit early, we might start seeing the first good Roosterfish of the season. Tight lines you guys!!
