Supercharged Roosters

As we head into October & the promise of some exciting fishing to come with the chance to start going after Dorado from the beach, my mind still can’t help but wander back to a truly epic summer season just past & one that will definitely be remembered for some of the strongest fighting Roosterfish that I’ve ever hooked. I was really fortunate to land & release a number of really good sized fish this season but there was something different about them if I compare to seasons past, can’t quite put my finger on it but almost something about their temperament combined with some extra supercharged power…not sure to be honest but all I can say is that I had some of the most memorable Roosterfish battles ever with one fish in particular, running me really deep into my backing & forcing me to tighten down on my drag a few times during the fight for fear of being spooled. This season the really good action started for me early in June & what was strange this year was that the bait action seemed to be concentrated all on the Pacific side & earlier than normal on that side without the usual early season blitz out along the ‘corridor’ stretch. There were days when it was absolute mayhem with big Jacks & Roosters in serious numbers & there were a few days in July where the top water action was insane, days that will definitely not be forgotten!!! Besides the incredible Roosterfish action, I think one of my highlights this season has to be an awesome Giant Pacific White Snook but maybe I’ve got to leave that story for another day, perhaps my next blog.

Anyway, if you’re interested, you can check out a lot of the action this summer on my YouTube channel & till next time, tight lines out there!!

Excellent blog post Toby. I always enjoy reading these when they pop up in my email. Every year I want to stay longer. I thought last year was going to be the block buster season I’ve been searching for. My seventh trip to Baja wasn’t the one I had planned and hoped for but it was an amazing trip. The week before I arrived the weather was hot and sunny with reports of big fish and tons of mullet right outside where I was staying!! Unfortunately the weather took a strange turn for the worst, windy, cold, and cloudy!! With a white wall of aqua marine layer looking like the wall of ice in Game of thrones. The wind direction turned unfavorabl…
